Thinking About Invisalign
12 June 2020Invisalign is a fantastic orthodontic treatment that many adult patients are using to help them achieve their dream smile. It may be that you never underwent teeth straightening in your teens, or that your teeth have relapsed since previous treatment. Either way, Invisalign is a great treatment and is suitable for many patients.
It works by wearing a series of clear aligners that fit comfortably over the teeth to gently reposition them over time. Each aligner is worn for two weeks at a time and then replaced with the next one in the series. Each one will move the teeth a little bit closer to the end goal!
The great thing with Invisalign is that it is almost invisible, most people won’t even know you are having treatment – unless you tell them! The aligners are fully removeable, and should be taken out for eating, drinking and cleaning your teeth. They are comfortable and should not affect your ability to speak, in fact they should not impact on your life much at all!
How long does it take for Invisalign to start working?
Invisalign treatment works by wearing a series of clear aligners, each set will gently move your teeth into their desired position. First of all, you will feel things working… as your new aligner does its job your teeth may feel a bit achey to begin with. This should last a day or two and can be managed easily with some paracetamol and a soft diet. Many patients like this feeling as they know it means things are working! You will start to notice visible changes within the first few weeks as your aligners gently reposition your teeth.
How long does it take to straighten your teeth with Invisalign?
Every patient is different so there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer to this question. However, at Crendon Dental Centre we will be able to provide you with a predictable timeline for your treatment so that you will have a good idea of how long things should take right from the outset.
How do I get the best results from Invisalign?
In order to achieve your dream smile, you need to follow the advice of your dentist. Your Invisalign aligners must be worn for 22 hours per day, they should only be removed for eating and drinking. Wearing them for this amount of time will ensure that your teeth are gently moving into their predicted position, ready for the next set aligners. Failure to wear aligners for the sufficient amount of time will result in slower progress

Invisalign Video consultations available
We are pleased to offer virtual consultations for Invisalign at Crendon Dental Centre, meaning that we can discuss Invisalign treatment with you without you having to visit the practice. This allows you the opportunity to ask us any questions you might have and discuss your future treatment, all from the comfort of your own home.
We use SmileMate as an aid to these consultations. This is online software tool that allows us to see your teeth via images that you upload prior to your video appointment. A dashboard is then created that allows us to communicate with you about aspects of your treatment. In addition, we are also implementing the use of Dental Monitoring software, which is an incredible tool that makes Invisalign treatment easier for our patients and allows us to treat you more and more remotely, meaning you will require less visits to the dental practice.
