When it comes to restoring your smile, dental crowns are among the most effective and versatile solutions. Whether you’re dealing with a damaged tooth, decay, or aesthetic concerns, a dental crown can provide the protection and appearance you need.
Getting a dental crown typically involves two visits to your dentist:
Initial Visit:
Your dentist will examine the affected tooth and take X-rays. The tooth is then filed down to make room for the crown. If a significant portion of the tooth is missing, your dentist might use filling material to build it up.
Impressions: An impression or scan of your tooth is made, which will be used to create your custom crown. In the meantime, you’ll receive a temporary crown to protect the prepared tooth.
Second Visit:
Once your permanent crown is ready, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and check the fit and colour of the permanent one. Adjustments are made as necessary before the crown is cemented into place.
Taking care of your dental crown is essential to ensure its longevity. Here are some tips:
- Maintain good oral hygiene: Brush twice a day and floss daily to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
- Avoid hard foods: Chewing on ice, hard candies, or other hard objects can damage your crown.
- Regular dental visits: Regular check-ups will help your dentist monitor the condition of your crown and the health of your surrounding teeth.
